Visual Essay

Intro

Climate change has been an ongoing issue in our world and we continue to allow it. By burning fossil fuels continuously, we are dramatically increasing the levels of greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere. Rising temperatures  decrease the chances of many species survival rates due to changes that lead to less food, less successful reproduction, and interfering with the environment for wildlife.

Ugh, Humans!

Humans will continue to have the capability to put ourselves first and not be mindful of our surroundings and who/what is getting hurt based on our actions. In addition, this cartoon describes a man speaking to the animal and the animal’s habitat being burned. There are two sides of the cartoon. However,  neither side looks like a side to be safe on.

So, What’s The Answer?

supposed to overlap the middle of the cartoon.

We need to find a balance between whether we should put ourselves first or animals. We need to find a balance between whether we want to make the world a better place or not. We need to find a balance between whether we want to save the PLANET or not.

The Statistics

Energy related CO2 emissions stood at 36.44 billion metric tons in 2019, representing a significant increase over the pre-industrial period. On the contrary, projections for 2020 demonstrate a significant reduction in emissions as a result of COVID-19. Asia Pacific region was the largest producer of CO2 emissions in 2019.

Technology

Our new priority is technology. Technology generates huge amounts of carbon dioxide, which causes global warming that is operated by fossil fuels. This causes less natural resources including energy. This causes less of an impact on the environment.

Reflection

In my visual essay, I wanted to attract a certain audience because I knew not everyone would understand my opinion. For example, children would not comprehend the effects climate change can possibly hold against us. In addition, senioritis. They can not really do much more because of the fact that they are much older.  Therefore, I wish to attract middle-aged, young people. My intended audience affected my choice in genre because I did not want to do anything too perplexing, so the audience understands my intentions in stating my opinions very clearly.

Some rhetorical strategies that I used to employ given the genre and rhetorical situation, was tone. I wanted to have a strong, harsh tone to prove to the audience that I’m serious about my opinion and stating them very clearly therefore the audience comprehends it well. I feel like the tone portrays how the author initially feels while writing their piece.I wanted to use different titles for different sections of my visual essay in bold, therefore, the audience can see it very clearly and can take interval breaks between reading and looking at each example.

Composing this essay made me feel like I needed to be more of an artist rather than a writer. I don’t really know how to be creative so this assignment was really hard for me. In addition, in this assignment, the prompt was broad. The prompt for this assignment was basically being creative with anything that matches your op-ed opinion. It was actually really hard for me to come up with something like the potential flier I made. Again, I am not creative. In addition, I was going to draw my political cartoon out. However, I do not know how to draw and I was not going to attempt if it was going to come out bad. While this assignment is being compared to a traditional essay, traditional essays have prompts. Prompts to abide by. Therefore, it’s much easier to write them. Also, writing traditional essays, the need to indent, have a word count, place a heading and sticking to a certain font are the rules. However, the visual essay, you do not need to do any of that.
